Hey Mom, I Love You. (Day 139)

Happy Mother's Day!

My sisters and I gave my mom 2 bouqets of Roses and her favorite perfume before taking her to eat lunch at El Taquito, a mexican restaurant we hadn't been to in YEARS.

The place was so homey and comfortable, and the food was delicious! their chips and salsa are awesome btw. We ate so comfortably and my dad even had a tv to watch...of course.

We walked out so full, but so happy lol. Relaxed the rest of the day.
Mother's Day again tomorrow! ha.

Pomp & Circumstance (Day 138)

It's time!

Maria graduated from the University of Phoenix today with her bachelor's in Business Communication! yay! So happy for her.

So I woke up at 6:30 this morning and my fam was already running around the house getting things together for today. Maria was getting dressed, mom was hopping in the shower, viki was eating (surprise, surprise. ha.) and my dad was waking up. We were all ready about an hour later and drove over to the stadium at Westgate. It was so hot out! I wore a black satin dress and was trying not to sweat in it.

We met the rest of my family there and sat for a while before it started. my mom had already been crying lol so I hugged her. tears of joy of course.

The ceremony was nice and we cheered when her name was called. After it finished we readied ourselves to get out of the stadium and it took foreverrrr!

We got out of the parking lot eventually and headed for the reception "Tea Party" at CeeCee's downtown glendale. yay! but we were running late!....ahh!

Stopped at home for a sec to freshen up and heard that there were already people ariving at CeeCees so we hurried and got to the restaurant. Let the Madhatter's tea party commence!

We started with some lovely Raspberry Lemonade.

Then came the salad

and the main course was lemon pepper chicken breast with mashed potatoes and a croissant lol but it was too good, I forgot to take a picture of it.

Poor maria was running around the whole time, being a good hostess, but the party turned out great. CeeCee dressed as the red queen and I had my mad hatter's hat, while maria was Alice in her blue dress. Ashley took photos but I have yet to see them. There were also cute kool aid drinks in clear bottles that had "drink me" tabs and little cakes that said "eat me"

So proud of my sister. Yay for all her hard work!!

mirror pic. haha.

Finals & First Friday! (Day 137)

Today is the day: Part 1.

FINALS DUE!!!!

wow I'm so freaked and so relieved at the same time that today has finally arrived. I got to class early to put the finishing touches on my songs and burned my discs, turned my listening journal in and was out of there!

Well not exactly right away...I spent some time talking to CJ, Thom and Alex discussing summer pans and all that good stuff. Hopefuly I'll be seeing them during break! especially CJ since I got so used to coming over to record almost everyday for a month! We'll see though, sometimes people lose touch over break, but I hope that doesn't happen with us cause I enjoy spending time with him.

Did I just say that?

Anyway, speaking of spending time, he asked for the night off work to come to my First Friday performance tonight! I thought that was really sweet since I know he can't afford to be missing work, but it was good for him to take a little break at least, though I know he wanted to go to the event anyway.

So I got home and immediately started getting ready for the night, which i was way stoked for since I'd never been!

I brought the drum I held onto since wednesday and when we got there (my mom and viki went haha my biggest fans :D) we bumped into Ruben! he was on his way to go DJ at a coffee shop down the street and so we all walked together. We found where the rest of the ensemble was at and our set was fun! we played our "greatest hits" as Doug calls them and the audience enjoyed the music. CJ found us and he stood with my mom, viki, ruben and rubens friend (his set got cancelled).

After we finished up, my fam and cj walked with me down roosevelt to 1st street where I found Mike and Carissa setting up for the acoustic Boys & Frogs performance I said I'd help with. Turns out, they forgot the generator for the PA system so it ended up being totally acoustic haha. I played the african drum along with a guy named Gabriel who I just met tonight and we had a nice set! I was a bit woried at first because to be honest I'm not very familiar with their music other than what I've heard in the studio at school, but I was pretty good at improvising. Glad I could join them tonight! I can officially I've played in a band before haha.

I would've stayed for the few final songs, but I had to go because tomorrow's marias graduation!!

Still, I walked around for about a half hour and we saw the fireworks coming from the Diamondbacks stadium. I kept thinking of the Lizzie McGuire movie at that point when Lizzie and the Italian boy are watching the fireworks then hold hands, which would've been kind of cute if it were just us two but it was still a cool experience nonetheless, glad my mom and viki went to support :)

By 10pm we were ready to go, but CJ asked if I wanted to check out some studio that was giving tours tonight, and said we could drop my mom and viki off at home then he'd pick me up at my house to go. 0.0 LOL uh....

I wasn't entirey sure what to say at that point becuase Maria's graduation would be 12 hours from now and I woudn't want to be falling asleep at the ceremony, but I also didn't want to cancel on him.

My mom said it was okay as long as I asn't out toooo late so I told him yes. He'd never been to my house though and I had to give him directions. When he got here I suddenly got nervous because I'd never really hung out with him outside of school, or at night since he works, but I figured all would be well :)

We headed back toward FF, and when we were almost there, CJ realized we didn't invite ashley. haha wow that was out of nowhere! Anywho I gave her a call and she was about to shower but we told her to cut it short bc we were on our way already haha, she was like okay, and we picked her up then headed back downtown.

Wellll by the time we got there it was almost midnight, and basically everything was over with, and the shuttes to the studio were gone for the night. Oh well. We ended up eating at Denny's and called it a night. Still had fun though.

Graduation tomorrow!

The End Is Near...better Command S. (Day 136)

Had my DAW 2 Final exam today. I got 100%!!!!!!

YUSSSS. It was a timed exam and I got mine done in 6 minutes flat. I held the record for quickest, but I was beat out by a few others and then Thom in the end. CJ was like "pffft I can beat that" and who got 7 minutes? not I. hahah Excuses followed. mhmm...

Wish I could've go home as a celebration, buuuut unfortunately I still had tons of work to do before tomorrow. Adding the final touches and notes to my video project and mixing down as well as mastering, not to mention continuing the synth song i just started were on the to-do list. pretty much haha. eep!

I ended up working a 12hr studio day and got home suuuper exhausted. I was still tired from last night, I seriouslly feel like I'll break if I move an inch. Here's to tomorrow.

P.S. (Day 135)

Here's a quick little note I left on my tumblr about my life lately.

In Case You Were Wondering...

ShincoDeMayo. (Day 135)

Happy Cinco De Mayo....whatever that means.

haha.

What I was more excited for was my percussion concert tonight!

I had such a busy day!! Started with a super productive time in class. Ahh it's getting closer to deadline! 2 days to go and I'm still working on songs, plus helping CJ with one of his.
After class I went to Panda with my mom and came back to campus for dress rehearsal. Good thing I brought tonight's clothes this morning because I wouldn'tve had time to go home and come back.

Anyway, the show went great! I was a bit nervous about the opener which was Music For Cross Cultures. We had to do some crazy hand patterns on ourselves, but it went great :) My family came to support and I had a good time. Another Show this Friday! woo!

1am Voice. (Day 134)

Singing late at night is so much better than singing in other times of the day for some reason. For me anyway. I think it's because after a day's worth of vocalizing and communicating, eating and drinking, the voice will be somewhat worn out by night's arrival. Add melodic efforts and you've got what I call the 1am voice. It sounds faintly raspy, but doesn't break. There's a hint of dryness in it that adds soul to any song. You should try if you haven't already :)

Spastic Elastic. (Day 133)

Whew! worked hard in the MIDI lab today. Spent the majority, if not all my class time elastic audio'ing a track. Doing so is extremely time consuming and tedious, but once I got the swing of things, it went by quickly and was actually pretty entertaining.

I know I said my hands were taking a beating and all and I should probably rest them as much as I can outside of school, but I just can't stop playing. I listened to my iPod tonight and decided to learn Niia's rendition of "Bang Bang" by Nancy Sinatra on piano. and so I did. ;)

New Addition! (Day 132)

I have a new cousin today! My cousin Ronnie had her baby Venezia Giada in FL and she's a beaut! I have a pic my tia sent, but i was having trouble upoading it here.

So proud and happy for Ronnie. Congrats girl!

MAY 1st. (Day 131)

Goodbye April, Hello May.

I kicked off the month by waking up with one of the worst/best cow licks I've ever had. Yes, I took a picture, but won't post it haha. it's pretty sweet though.

Ha, so I went with my sisters to the mall (so old) to try and find Maria a dress for her graduation a week from today, but we had no luck. Instead, she bought a perfume at Macy's. While we were there, a rather flambouyant fella who was working in fragrance reminded me so much of Adam Lambert! I wanted to take a picture of that, but I would've seem like a weirdo, so too bad, but he was twin-worthy.

I tried on one of my favorite scents, Miss Cherie by Dior. <3 If it weren't so expensive right now, I'd totally get it.

P.S. (Day 130)

Oh! almost forgot. I went with Varina and my sisters to eat at a place called Il Primo. good food! It's italian, and we had pizza and wings. Afterward, we drove back to Varina's and while vicky and Miette played in one room, Maria, Varina and I had girl talk. I told them about something from earlier today and we spent a good hour discussing it. Normally, I keep things to myself, but this was a time where I needed their advice. Glad we talked, they gave me some good feedback to keep in mind.

TGIF!!! (Day 130)

It's Friday! I may not be in love, but I sure am happy today has finally arrived. It's been a busy week and I'm ready to unwind this weekend.

So far it's been a good day. My mom got off work early and viki didn't have school, so I brought her with me to class haha, she met CJ and Thom.

When class was over my mom viki and I went to pick ashley up from west, and she told me she'd already started walking home because apparently I took forever to go get her. uh...hello I had class.

I called her because I couldn't just let her walk all the way home, what if something happened? no way. So we picked her up and went to have lunch at Sprout's. She wasn't mad anymore but wasn't hungry either. We made her eat. haha. Otherwise, my mom said she could start walking again. LOL.

She may not know how to show thanks in person, but she posted on Twitter:

"My second famoree is awesome"
damn right. :)

I Can't Even... (Day 129)

Ugh. Today was one of those days. Stressful.

First of all, Spring is definitely here, these winds are strong enough to sail a car.

Secondly, it seems everyone on the road decided simultaneously that it's drive-like-a-maniac day.

Thirdly, there was so much to do at school today.

that is all.

Hang In There, Hands! (Day 128)

My hands are really taking a beating lately. I really started feeling it today when I went to percussion practice. We had a guest instructor during the african drum portion and it took about 45 minutes so by the end of it, my hands were on fire, tingling and cramping up. They'd been okay during the last few weeks, but I think I just used up whatever tolerance they had left in this one practice. Yea.

Anyway, the songs are sounding great, and I've got a concert + First Friday performance coming up in the next week! pretty freakin excited. stay tuned!

Jams & Hangs. (Day 127)

Today was awesome. Had DAW 2 and brought my guitar and bass to school again. Alex wanted to see the guitar so I took it out and he played a little ditty before giving it back lol. I started playing AJ Rafaels "She Was Mine" and he recognized it, came over and we ended up having an impromptu jam sesh where he learned the piano part via a youtube tutorial haha.

I picked ash up after school and took her to cjs with me so she could meet my new friend and so I could record guitar for his project. I did a few takes sitting in my favorite corner by the door and ash took pictures of me (of course) Here's one.

When my fingers began to fail me, I took a break and we all played some sega dreamcast and N64 haha. I'm glad ashley and cj got along, sometimes its weird introducing mutual friends, but it went well. :)

Like Seven Seconds From The Mid-Day Sun...(Day 126)

SO HOT OUT TODAY. that is all.
